Nigerian Government recommits to digital job creation for women

The Nigerian government has restated its commitment to digital job creation, networking for women to ensure gender digital Inclusion, social and economic development in the country.

The Director General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa stated this at the closing ceremony of the Female Founder Training, organised by the Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI), a subsidiary of the agency, in Abuja, Nigeria.

 Inuwa who was represented by his Special Assistant on Strategy and Innovation,

Mrs Iklima Musa Salihu noted that the initiative is aimed at supporting and empowering women in Nigeria to leverage digital technologies for building viable and scalable businesses.

He said the training programme is a celebration of innovation, dedicated to discovering and

showcasing ingenious technology-based concepts, ideas, and solutions crafted

by the talented women of Nigeria.

“Our overarching goal is to bridge gender disparities in the technology industry and pave the way for increased digitalemployment opportunities for women.

 “From the day we warmly welcomed our 12 carefully chosen participants, each

representing a geopolitical zone, your palpable passion and willingness to learn set an inspiring tone. 

 “Over the past two weeks, you’ve delved into a wealth of knowledge, navigating the intricacies of successful technology ventures – from product development to marketing strategies and financial

management. 

 “Facilitators, not just speakers, and programme desk officers,not traditional mentors, played pivotal roles in providing practical insights,

equipping you to translate your innovative ideas into tangible business ventures” The NITDA Boss stressed.

He further disclosed that the mission encompasses identifying and showcasing innovative tech-based ideas and solutions developed by Nigerian females.

The Director-General also disclosed “we aim to promote and support these tech-based ventures founded by women which would enable the closure of gender gaps that exist in the tech ecosystem.”

The NITDA Boss emphasized  that this programme aligns seamlessly with n two key priorities of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda investing in the digital economy to empower Nigerians with new skills and jobs, and driving women’s empowerment across all facets of life.

Inuwa encouraged the beneficiaries to harness the knowledge gained  to impact and  inspire others.

“Motivated by each other’s story, you’ve seen firsthand how collaboration can expedite individual success.These partnerships are poised to be essential in amplifying progress.

 “As you carry your newfound knowledge back to your communities, I am confident it will create a ripple effect, inspiring more women to unlock their

potential as technology entrepreneurs.

 “Your enthusiasm has laid the foundation for an inclusive and equitable future. I encourage you to continue nurturing your ventures and this community, as greater heights undoubtedly await you” He said.

He gave the assurance that NITDA will continue to support them.“Our commitment to supporting your

endeavors, be it through access to finance, programme desk officers, or

markets, remains unwavering.We firmly believe in your capacity to propel Nigeria onto the global map as an innovation hub fueled by thecreative energies of women” he added

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with Voice of Nigeria, appreciated NITDA for the support and  shared their experiences on the skills they were equipped with, including communications, digital marketing and other tech skills to help navigate their businesses.
