Nigerian Government, Sokoto State distribute farm inputs to women farmers

The Federal Government in collaboration with the Sokoto State Government has commenced the distribution of farm inputs and hand tools to women farmers in the 23 local government areas of the State. This is in an effort to enhance food production across the country.

Speaking at the inauguration of the distribution exercise in Sokoto, the State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Kulu Sifawa, noted that the gesture was part of the federal government’s desire to engage Nigerian women in farming.

According to her, the essence of the project is to boost agricultural activities to enhance food production across the country.

“The gesture is part of the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs in engaging women participation in nation building.

“As you are aware, women are the bedrock for every societal development, as such, the government came up with the programme to support the country’s commitment to food security.

“Therefore, I urge the beneficiaries to judiciously utilize the opportunity in ensuring the success of the exercise,” she said.

On his part, Chairman, Gudu Local Government Area, Alhaji Bello Wakili, assured that the council would monitor the progress of the exercise, adding that women are full time farmers and must be supported for improved food production.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that bags of groundnuts, maize, rice and beans seeds, among others, were the items distributed to the farmers.
