Minister Idris made this pledge while receiving an IPAC delegation at his office in Abuja. He emphasized that IPAC is not solely for the ruling party but serves as a coalition of all political parties in Nigeria, working together to sustain democracy. Given its crucial role, he stated that initiatives like the proposed documentary deserve full government support.
Describing the documentary as a significant chronicle of Nigeria’s democratic evolution, Idris said, “This project is not just for IPAC or the government of the day—it is for our democracy, which we are all striving to protect and promote. I assure you that this ministry, alongside its agencies and the Nigerian media, will collaborate to bring this project to fruition.”
He further acknowledged IPAC’s continuous efforts in strengthening democracy, noting that the documentary would serve as a historical record honoring Nigeria’s political heroes and democratic achievements. “The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, is ready to support this initiative. We will keep engaging and respecting each other’s perspectives while upholding our individual political identities,” he added.
The minister also urged political parties to maintain collaboration beyond election periods to promote national unity and development. He stressed that political parties form the foundation of democracy and commended IPAC for recognizing the importance of unity despite political differences. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu supports healthy political competition. Democracy thrives on constructive opposition and national interest-driven cooperation, irrespective of party affiliations. While elections bring competition, nation-building requires collective effort,” he said.
IPAC Chairman Highlights Documentary’s Significance
Earlier, IPAC’s National Chairman, Mr. Yusuf Dantalle, explained that the documentary would showcase Nigeria’s progress in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social development.
“This documentary is a strategic communication tool designed to tell Nigeria’s democratic story, particularly to Gen Z, using the power of film. It will not only serve as a historical reference but also educate and unite the younger generation. Featuring top Nollywood actors and produced with state-of-the-art technology, it will meet global standards in quality and impact,” he said.
He emphasized that sustaining democracy requires collective participation. “This project will recognize the contributions of all stakeholders—political parties, civil society, the media, and the Nigerian people. I encourage all Nigerians to support and engage with this documentary as we continue to strengthen our democracy,” he added.
The proposed documentary, titled “From Brooklyn to a Half-Decade of Democracy,” will document Nigeria’s 25-year democratic journey, celebrating achievements, challenges, and lessons learned along the way.
