Nigerian Government To Introduce Skills Learning Curriculum In Schools

Minister of Education Professor Tahir Mamman said the Federal Government will soon introduce the teaching of skills acquisition at all levels of Nigerian schools across the nation to curb the challenges of producing results without skills.

Mamman made the statement at the inauguration of Governing Council Members of One hundred and eleven Federal Tertiary Institutions which include Fifty Universities, Thirty-seven Polytechnics and Twenty-four Federal Colleges of Education.

The Minister said Nigerian institutions are expected to graduate students who would contribute to the national development of the country and to be self-dependent without heavily relying on government jobs which is contrary to the graduates of today.

He said the Federal government is aware of the current challenges bedeviling the Federal Tertiary institutions ranging from Insufficient modern infrastructures and facilities, Insufficient of funding,  Low carried capacity and Certificate racketeering which is crippling the country’s educational standard will soon pass.

In his remark, the Chairman National Universities Commission Mr Chris Maiyaki, assured the Federal tertiary institutions of the commission’s effort to provide the necessary support to achieve academic excellence in the country.

Similarly, the Executive Secretary National Board for Technical Education Professor Idris Bugaje and his Counterpart the Executive Secretary National Commission for Colleges of Education Professor Paulinus Chijoke both emphasised the need for strengthening the educational system of Nigeria through adequate funding and called on the new appointees corporation in transforming the Nigerian’s Educational System.

In his applead, Chairman Lagos State University,   Governing Council Chief Wole Olanipekun called on President Bola Tinubu to look into the issue of Treasury Single Account TSA which has negatively affected the Federal institution has deprived them the ability to provide some facilities and equipment to enhance academic excellence in the institution.

Olanipekun further cautioned the members of the governing council to desist from any form of action of extortion or job racketeering and focused on promoting the country’s educational standard to the highest level.

One of the Governing Council Chairmen, Mr Aminu Suleiman Chairman Governing Council and Federal College of Education Nasarawa State Northcentral Nigeria assured Nigerians of their efforts towards achieving the desired results and transforming the educational system of Nigeria.
