Nigerian Government to launch additional satellites

The Minister for communication, Mr. Adebayo Shittu says effort are being put in place to introduce two more satellite that will encourage Nigerian institutions to host their information locally rather than hosting information outside the country

He disclosed this at the Town Hall Meeting organised by the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture which held in Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria. 

“Because we have only one satellite, a lot of Nigerian companies fear that if anything happens to it, their entire information will be lost,he said.

The Minister explained that to bring together all network on a single umbrella as a share centre Plat form, the Galaxy backbone limited was established to serve as a connectivity clearing house for all Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

“This backbone is supposed to store all Federal Government information activities across the country, it is linked up to all the Ministries, Departments and agencies,he said.

According to him, the project which is ongoing requires over two billion naira, and once completed would enable Government store all their information and connects within government.
