Nigerian Government Unveils Agro-Initiative to Empower 36,000 People
To provide jobs for the teeming youths, the Federal Government has unveiled an agricultural scheme that it said would empower at least 1000 Nigerians in each of the 36 States of the Federation.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Mohammad Abubakar, disclosed this at the flag-off of the programme in partnership with the Joint Faith Peace Initiative (JFPI) in Enugu, for the South-East zone.
The minister noted that the government was keen on diversification of resources, listing the Federal Government’s several intervention schemes and policies.
Speaking on impacts of partnership with(JFPI) he said, “A total of 283 beneficiaries were trained in fish farming and 243 in poultry; 183 beneficiaries from 523 trained had established micro and small-scale businesses through encouragement by the Joint Faith Peace Initiative. Also, a total of 93 beneficiaries of the fish farming training and many in poultry production look forward to establishing their businesses with access to start-up funds,” the minister informed.
Abubakar stressed the government’s commitment to promoting safety of agriculture and agribusiness investments in Nigeria.
