Nigerian Government urges Pan-African Agency towards implementing past recommendations

Nigeria’s Minister of Environment, Mr Balarabe Lawal has called on members of the Pan-African Agency of the Great Green Wall to collectively work together towards implementing past recommendations of the Pan-African Agency by putting into practice other laudable decisions made at the 9th session.
The Minister who was speaking at the 9TH Session of the Chairman, Ministers of the Pan-African Agency of the Great Green Wall, in Abuja said there is the need to redeem these pledges in order to achieve the objectives of 9th session.
“As we deliberate on the recommendations of Technical Committee of Experts (TCE) which preceded this meeting, I urge members to carefully scrutinize the recommendations of the TCE with a view to proffering practicable solutions to our various Heads of State on the challenges of climate change.” He said.
He noted that the deliberations of the 9th session would provide meaningful solutions of combating the negative effects of climate change and also provide an avenue to attain healthier and greener environment for our communities to thrive.
The Minister explained that 16,000 youths from all over the country have successfully registered under the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, NAGGW, Youth Volunteer Programme.
“Members States would recall that at the 8th Ordinary Session of the Pan-African Agency of the Great Green Wall held in June 2022 here in Abuja, significant recommendations were proffered by the Council for implementation. The implementation of some of these recommendation by Members States have gone a long way in fostering and promoting the Great Green Wall Initiative. It is also on record that the 8th session of the Council commenced with tree planting exercise which is still maintained and sustained by this administration.” He said.
He added that after the 8th session, Nigeria as a member state has implemented more recommendations of the Council.
He however commended President a Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR and Her Excellency, for his support towards ensuring a healthy and conducive environment in Nigeria and the region in general.
