The 67th Grammy Awards ceremony is set to take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. This year, Nigerian artists are poised to shine on the global stage with nominations that highlight their incredible contributions to music.

From Tems’s “Born in the Wild” and “Love Me Jeje” to Yemi Alade’s “Tomorrow,” Chris Brown’s collaboration with Davido on “Sensational,” Rema’s HEIS, Asake’s “MMS,” and Burna Boy’s “Higher,” these works have captivated audiences worldwide. Each nomination not only celebrates the talent of these artists but also brings Nigerian music into the international spotlight. Here’s a closer look at the nominees and their chances:

Tems: “Born in the Wild” and “Love Me Jeje”

Tems continues to dominate the global music scene with three Grammy nominations this year. She’s nominated for Best African Music Performance (“Love Me Jeje”), Best Global Music Album (Born in the Wild), and Best R&B Song (“Burning”). Her debut album, Born in the Wild, released on June 7, 2024, features standout tracks like “Me & U,” “Love Me Jeje,” and “Burning.” Following her Grammy win for contributing to Future’s “Wait for U,” Tems’s latest nominations solidify her as a powerhouse in contemporary music. Many believe she’s likely to secure at least one trophy.

Yemi Alade: “Tomorrow”

Afro-pop queen Yemi Alade has earned a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category for her vibrant track “Tomorrow.” Released on May 17, 2024, as part of her sixth studio album, Rebel Queen, the song is a cultural celebration with a hopeful and spiritual message. Produced by DeeYassobeatz, it captures the resilience and optimism Yemi is known for. Although she faces stiff competition from heavyweights like Burna Boy and Tems, Yemi’s consistency and artistry could make her a dark horse in this category.

Davido: “Sensational” (with Chris Brown and Lojay)

Davido’s collaboration on Chris Brown’s “Sensational” earned him a spot in the Best African Music Performance category. Featuring Lojay, the track highlights Davido’s vocal versatility and cements Chris Brown’s reputation for crafting global hits. Released in 2023, “Sensational” continues to resonate with listeners worldwide, and many believe this could be Davido’s first Grammy win.

Asake: “MMS”

Asake’s “MMS,” featuring Wizkid, is another contender for Best African Music Performance. Known for blending traditional Afrobeat rhythms with contemporary sounds, the track, released in June 2024, showcases Asake’s innovative style. While it may not have made as significant an impact as his earlier works, its Grammy nomination underscores his rising prominence on the global stage.

Rema: HEIS

Rema’s sophomore album, HEIS, has earned him a nomination for Best Global Music Album. Released in July 2024, the 11-track album explores the highs and pressures of global stardom, building on the success of his debut, Rave & Roses. Tracks like “Hehehe” highlight Rema’s growth as an artist. Competing against the likes of Antonio Rey and Tems, a win here would elevate Rema’s status as an Afrobeat trailblazer.

Burna Boy: “Higher”

Burna Boy continues his Grammy streak with a nomination for Best African Music Performance for his song “Higher.” Released on June 27, 2024, the track showcases his lyrical dexterity and unmatched ability to transcend musical boundaries. Produced by Dibs, “Higher” captures the infectious energy Burna brings to his performances, making it a strong contender in this category.

As the countdown to February 2 begins, all eyes will be on these Nigerian stars as they aim to add more Grammy accolades to their impressive careers.
