Nigerian Lawmakers reconvene plenary after Yuletide break

The 9th Nigeria National Assembly has reconvened plenary after the Christmas and New Year recess.

The Chairman of the National Assembly and President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan welcomed members back from the recess and said the 9th Assembly will give priority attention to five issues that could facilitate the socio-economic advancement of Nigeria before the end of year 2021.

Senator Lawan highlighted the crucial issues of electoral matters to include: constitution review, Petroleum Industry Bill PIB, insecurity and Covid-19 pandemic. According to him, these issues must be given expeditious legislative attention if 2021 must be adjudged successful.

He read all the letters received from President Muhammadu Buhari seeking confirmation of various appointments. They include: confirmation of the Auditor General of the federation, the Fiscal responsibility commission chairman, the Service Chiefs and the Non-career Ambassadors designate, all of whom were the immediate past service chiefs.

Adjourns to mourn colleague
The Senate thereafter suspended Tuesday’s plenary and adjourned till Wednesday in honour of Mr. Ossy Prestige, who until his death was the Lawmaker representing Aba North and South federal constituency in the 9th National Assembly.
