Nigerian Leader Establishes Presidential Committee On Climate Action, Green Economy

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has established a Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions.

The Committee is to coordinate and oversee all policies and programmes on climate action and green economic development.

This was contained in a statement made available to State House correspondents on Sunday in Abuja.

According to the statement, the Committee was created to remove the constraints to coordination, foster an entirely different government approach to climate-action programmes and ensure that all relevant institutions in the sector are integrated into the President’s vision.

It stated that the Committee will provide an efficient governance architecture while collectively implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda on climate action in Nigeria.

The statement further disclosed that the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will Chair the committee While the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal is to serve as the Vice-Chairman.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Obari Ngelale is to serve as Special Adviser and Secretary to the committee.

Other members of the committee Include Lazarus Angbazo (CEO, InfraCorp) -Salisu Dahiru (CEO, NCCC) –, Michael Ohiani (CEO, ICRC) – Aisha Rimi (CEO, NIPC), Aminu Umar-Sadiq (CEO, NSIA) – Member

Also appointed to serve as members of the committee are Yusuf Maina-Bukar (CEO, NAGGW),  Abdullahi Mustapha (CEO, ECN), Abba Abubakar Aliyu (CEO, REA) – Uzoma Nwagba (CEO, CrediCorp).

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Khalil Halilu is also to serve as a Member including Fatima Shinkafi (CEO, SMDF), Bala Bello (Deputy Governor, CBN),  Lolade Abiola (UN SE4ALL), Teni Majekodunmi (NCCC Adviser).

The President also approved the nominations of Representatives of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Federal Ministry of Power, and Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade & Investment, all to serve as members of the committee to oversee green economic initiatives.

Also with representatives to serve as members on the committee are: the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Food Security, Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Nigerian Customs Service.

The statement added that the committer was set up to ensure the advancement of President Tinubu’s administration’s climate and green economic initiatives.
