Nigerian Leader mourns Islamic Scholar, Ali

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the death of the foremost Islamic scholar, Sheikh Yusuf Ali, as one that reverberates across the country and especially among the Tijjaniyya sect in Nigeria and beyond.

In a statement signed by the President’s Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu expressed his grief over the death of Sheikh Ali, who died in the early hours of Monday, at age 73.

He extended his condolences to the family, students, and followers of the Kano-based scholar who held the position of Sarkin Malamai of Gaya Emirate.

“As a teacher, poet, jurist, Islamic preacher, and herbalist, Sheikh Yusuf Ali has impacted a multitude of people throughout his life. His life was dedicated to the search and propagation of knowledge.

President Tinubu sympathized with the late Sheikh’s family, his followers, the government and people of Kano State, and the Nigerian Muslim community over the loss.

He prayed for the repose of his soul.
