Nigerian Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has joined other dignitaries, family, friends and well wishers to mourn the late Senator Annie Okonkwo who was buried in Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra state.
A funeral mass in his honour was held at St Paul’s Catholic Church and was celebrated by the Archbishop of Onitsha Archdiocese, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, assisted by the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, and other clergymen.
Senator Akpabio in his condolence remark to the good people of Ojoto over the death of their illustrious son, noted that he can’t imagine Ojoto Community without Senator Annie Okonkwo, as he has lifted the name of his Community to the greater heights, he assured that the Senate would always remember Late Senator Annie Okonkwo.
The senate President equally described the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo as the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, governor who revitalised the Nigerian banking system.
Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, in his Condolence message, stated that late Senator Annie Okonkwo until his death, served his constituency and the nation at large, leaving a remarkable footprint here on earth.
He emphasised his death as a great loss to the people of Ojoto, Anambra State and the nation at large .
He also commiserated with his beloved wife, Lady Chinyere Okonkwo, the family, the entire Ojoto Community and the good people of Anambra State, on whose distress a towering canopy is lost to elevated eternity, peace and rest.
Governor Soludo also welcomed and appreciated the dignitaries both from the Nigerian Government, States and Diaspora for honoring the burial and prayed for God to grant them journey mercies on their way back.
Governor Soludo, while commiserating with the wife, Lady Chinyere and her children said that the late Senator Okonkwo lived a purposeful and impactful life, describing him as a great son of Ojoto, Anambra, Nigeria and the world.
Late Senator Annie Okonkwo until his death was a great politician; a former senator that represented Anambra Central Senatorial District, a former governorship candidate and successful business mogul that have left indelible impact in the lives of thousand of Ndi Anambra and Nigerians at large including about 6000 of his employees.
The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex C. Otti , the Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Somto Udeze, Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Mr. Peter Obi, Senator Chris Ngige, Anambra Central Senator, Senator Victor Umeh OFR Anambra South Senator, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Senator Uche Ekwunife, amongst others, attended the funeral Mass.
Confidence Okwuchi
