Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Doris Anite says the new Ministers appointed by President Bola Tinubu are experts in their various fields, who are ready to work for the benefit of the nation.
Dr Anite stated this in an interview with State House Correspondents, minutes after they were sworn-in.
The Minister said; “she is ready to revamp the activities of the Ministry as well as place Nigeria on the global trade map.”
She said: “We are equal to the task and we are sure that we will not disappoint. We know the expectations of Nigerians and we want to assure them that this team, this crop of Ministers are experts in their different fields and they should be confident that the Renewed Hope Agenda has come to stay and it is for the betterment and prosperity of everyone in Nigeria.”
More Industries
Dr Anite projected that in the next four years, more industries would spring up and Nigeria would grow its economy as well as exports.
“We hope that in four years we will have industries that become unicorns in Nigeria. We hope that in four years we will see our exports grow and we will see the economy grow through trade facilitation, improvement and growth in the small and medium enterprises. We also hope to attract more investments into the country.
“We are very excited and optimistic that Nigeria is going to take back its place as the biggest economy in Africa,” she said.
The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, who also spoke to Journalists, said he would use his wealth of experience in collaboration with stakeholders in the security sector to ensure safety of lives and property in all parts of the country.
He said; “We will do our best to bring experts together in order to rid the country of security challenges. It is a matter of organization and coordination. I have been the Governor of Jigawa State for eight years and the State had the least security challenges in the country. From that you know that we know what we are doing.”
Minister of State-Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha was also optimistic that unemployed youths would be positively engaged through the National Directorate of Employment, NDE.
Onyejeocha also said the labour laws of the country must be respected by expatriates doing business in Nigeria.
She said; “When we look at these laws, we are going to start sanctioning people who are not utilizing the quota that they are supposed to use for the Nigerian people and you know a lot of foreigners are here working, some of them need to do technological transfer but they have not done that. Some have exceeded their stay here so, we are going to look at those laws and make sure that such people are called to order.
“We have our youths all over the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory with some of them on the streets roaming and so we are going to look at how we must remove these youths from the streets and make them gainfully employed.”
“For those who don’t have the requisite qualification, we will use the National Directorate of Employment. We will train and retrain people so that they become employable and within a few months we are going to see something exciting for the Nigerians youths,” she added.
