The Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu says he will continue to champion the creation of State Police as the security and welfare of every citizen remains the priority of the administration.
The President was represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammad Idris at the 10th memorial Anniversary celebration of the former Kogi State Governor, Prince Abubakar Audu in Lokoja, the State capital, North central Nigeria.
President Tinubu said; “the recent declaration of State of emergency on
National security underscored the gravity with which the nation views the security challenges.”
According to the President, this is not a mere proclamation; it’s a declaration of war against all forms of insecurity.
“As part of these, we have immediately begun the process of expanding
the capacity of armed Forces and security agencies in numbers in advanced weaponry and intelligent capabilit,” President Tinubu said.
The President emphasised that “we will hunt the enemy of our State wherever they may be and restore the peace that is the rightful inheritance of every Nigerian.”
He said that to secure Nigerians permanently, the nation must
reform the very architecture of the security, ‘this is why my administration is courageously championing the establishment of State Police.”
He believed that a model that is localised and community-sensitive will help in the journey towards the establishment of lasting peace and prosperity of Nigerians.
On the recent United States President, Donald Trump’s comment on
Nigeria as a country of particular concern, President Tinubu said Nigeria is engaged in widespread Diplomatic engagement to correct the false narrative of the country.
“Nigeria is a beacon of religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence, the characterisation of our country as a religiously intolerant nation is a gross distortion of our reality,” he emphasised.
