Senate accepts resignation of principal officers

The Nigerian senate has formally announced the resignation of the Majority & Minority Leaders of the Senate who had long withdrawn their membership of their  political parties.

President of the senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan announced this at the resumption of plenary after a month of recess during which the Lawmakers participated in the nationwide party primaries ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Senator Abdullahi Yahaya, who was Leader of the senate, defected from the governing party the APC, to the main opposition party the PDP.

Similarly, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe who was Leader of the PDP, also left his position following his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

Besides the two principal officers, the chairman senate committee on works, Senator Adamu Aliero, also defected from the governing party APC to the main opposition party the PDP.

President of the senate, Ahmad Lawan while thanking them for their services as Leaders of the senate, urged all the Lawmakers not to relent in their commitment to strengthening the ideals of democracy in Nigeria.
