Nigerian Senate Begins Probe Of Aviation Industry Crisis

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, urged the Minister of Aviation to halt the planned demolition of the aviation agencies’ headquarters in Lagos, pending the outcome of the probe by senate.

Senate resolution was sequel to a motion spondored by Senator Biodun Olujimi, on the urgent need of senate intervention on the intenting warning strike by Aviation unions.

Senate expressed worry at the lingering issues bothering on welfare of aviation workers, as well as the threat to property demolition by the federal authorities.

Constitution Amendment

Meanwhile, senate has resolved to transmit to the President for assent, the constitution fifth alteration bill number twenty, which has met the provisions of section nine sub-section two of the Constitution.

The constitution alteration bill number twenty, focuses on the uniform retirement age for judicial officers, which recently got the approval of Sokoto state House of Assembly.

Data Protection

In another development, President Muhammadu Buhari has requested for senate confirmation of Mrs. Abike Dabiri Erewa, as chairman of the Nigerians in diaspora commission, for a second five year term in office.

President Buhari also requested the senate to confirm his appointment of six nominees as federal commissioners of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

That particular list includes a Journalist and a member of the 7th National Assembly, Senator Ayogu Eze.

Also, the Senate read for the second time, a bill seeking to establish the Nigerian council for Christian education. The Nigerian data protection bill was also read for the second time, and both were later refered to the relevant committees, to report back to the senate in plenary within four weeks.
