The Nigerian Senate has screened and confirmed the immediate past Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, as Minister of State for Finance.
The exercise comes barely 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu wrote the Senate requesting the Legislative’s approval of Oyedele as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Until his nomination as Minister, Oyedele, from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded reforms aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s tax system.
Oyedele, 50, is an economist, accountant and public policy expert.
Before his appointment to lead the presidential tax reform committee, he spent 22 years of his professional career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, joining the global consulting firm in 2001 and rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
If sworn in by the President, he will replace Doris Uzoka-Anite who is now a Minister of State for Budget.
