Subsidy Removal: Nigerian Senate Considers N500b Palliatives Budget

The Nigerian Senate is now considering the President’s request to amend the 2022 supplementary budget of over N819 billion, to provide for funding of  N500 billion as palliatives to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.

The over  N819 billion supplementary Appropriation was passed by the National Assembly and signed into Law by former President Muhammadu Buhari for the purpose of addressing flooding that affects parts of the country.

However, President Bola Tinubu is requesting the parliament to amend that Act to allow the government access N500 billion in view of the exigency of the subsidy removal palliatives.
