Nigerian Senate passes 7 Bills

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday passed seven Bills, including a sixty-seven year old piece of Legislation used during the colonial era.

The federal audit service bill, 2023 was enacted after the Lawmakers repealed the 1956 audit ordinance, while there was also a Bill seeking to establish the federal college of horticulture, Okigwe in Imo state south east Nigeria.

Others include; Investment and securities bill, 2023 national social investment programme establishment bill, 2023, Shea development council establishment bill, and the national centre for women development amendment bill, 2023, among others.

Meanwhile, Senate has constituted a five-member conference committee for the Insurance Act Amendment Bill, 2023, and the National Assembly pension office bill, 2023.

Senator Uba Sani is to chair the Conference Committee on the Insurance Amendment Bill, while Senator Ibrahim Shekarau heads the Conference Committee on the National Assembly Pension Office Bill.

“They are to work together with their counterparts from the House of Representatives.”

The Senate also received President Buhari’s request seeking the confirmation of his nominees for appointment into the universal service provision Board which was later referred to the committee on communications.

The President’s nominees are; Engineer Funke Opeke, Mr. Ahmed Walama, Mrs. Fatima Kyari, and Engineer Gbenga Adebayo.
