Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a coordinated terrorist attack in the Ngamdu general area of Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

The attack, according to the Military’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East Operation HADIN KAI, involved rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), armed drones, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). It was swiftly countered by troops on the ground, with reinforcement elements from the 29 Task Force Brigade.

Terrorist Casualties Reported

Lt Col Uba said the terrorists launched a fierce assault, but troops held their positions and responded with superior firepower, inflicting heavy losses on the attackers.

The encounter, however, resulted in four soldiers killed in action and five others wounded. Some Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and gun trucks also sustained varying degrees of damage.

“The terrorists attempted to prevent reinforcements and inflict further casualties by planting multiple IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR),” Lt Col Uba said.

He added that army engineers swiftly cleared three IED-laden spots, restoring safe movement for both military and civilian vehicles along the route.

Exploitation Operations Underway

Credible intelligence indicates that the terrorists suffered significant casualties, with reports of mass burials of about 15 bodies transported in pushcarts around Bula Wura, near Wasaram.

The 29 Task Force Brigade has since launched fighting patrols and exploitation operations to deny the terrorists freedom of action and consolidate operational gains.

Lt Col Uba reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring normalcy and maintaining peace and security across the region.
