Ganiyat Adeduntan Named Head Coach of GWU Women’s Basketball.
George Washington University (GWU) has appointed U.S.-based Nigerian sportswoman Ganiyat Adeduntan as the new head coach of its women’s basketball team.
Adeduntan, who previously coached Colgate University’s women’s basketball team, led them to historic achievements, including back-to-back 20-win seasons and a school-record 23 victories in 2024/2025.
Her return to GWU marks a homecoming, as she previously served as an assistant coach from 2017 to 2021, contributing to an Atlantic 10 Conference title and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018.
GWU’s Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics, Michael Lipitz, expressed confidence in Adeduntan’s leadership, stating that she is the right person to restore the team’s dominance in the A-10 Conference and on the national stage.
“Ganiyat Adeduntan’s appointment as the head coach of George Washington University’s women’s basketball team is a groundbreaking moment for Nigerian sports. This achievement is not just a win for her but for the entire nation, proving once again that Nigerian talent continues to shine on the global stage. From her impressive tenure at Colgate University to this historic new role, Adeduntan has shown that excellence, dedication, and vision know no boundaries. As she takes on this new challenge, we celebrate her as a trailblazer and look forward to seeing her impact at GWU. Nigeria stands proud!”
