Nigerian Women Advocate For Sustainable Agricultural Progress.

The National Coordinator of NWAP, Mrs.Omolara Svensson, made the call during the Nigerian Women in Agriculture and Agric business convention held in Abuja Nigeria’s capital.

According to Mrs. Svennsson, sustainable agricultural practices can help to reduce poverty and ensure food security in Nigeria.

She stated that the government must provide the necessary resources to empower farmers, including the provision of better farming equipment and access to markets where their products can be sold.

“With the right set of policies and interventions, Nigeria’s agricultural practices can be improved to increase productivity, profitability, and sustainability for current and future generations,” she said.

She further emphasized the need for unity and collaboration among women farmers adding that it would help overcome various challenges faced in the sector.

While speaking, the Southwest coordinator of the group, Mrs. Enitan Onitiri, emphasized the importance of promoting modern farming techniques that are geared towards sustainability and the need to empower women farmers to increase their income and Improve their standard of living.

“The use of environmentally friendly practices such as crop rotation and conservation agriculture will not only lead to efficient land use, but it will also reduce the use of harmful chemicals that can have negative effects on the soil and the environment,” she said.

“It is also worthy to note that the Nigerian Agricultural sector has undergone remarkable policy and huge capital investments by successive governments in addition to grants, aids, and donations through foreign direct investments that run into trillions of naira but the reality is that Nigerian women in agric have suffered neglect unlike what is obtained globally, ” she further said.

NWAP, consisting of women from various agricultural sectors and geopolitical zones, aims to ensure that Nigeria’s agricultural practices comply with international standards while also being sustainable and environmentally friendly.

It is also committed to changing agribusiness narratives for Nigerian Women and by extension becoming the leading light of sustainable progress for African women farmers.
