Two Nigerian professional wrestlers, Ifeoma Nwoye and Emeka Nwafor from Anambra State, have signed training and partnership deals with World Association of Wrestling (WAW) in London, England.

Talents Development Director of the London Multi Sports Academy, Morris Atula, who facilitated the invitation and contracts disclosed this to newsmen in Awka on Tuesday.

Atula said the contract, which would span for six months in the first instance, would involve training, access to world facilities, equipment management, representation, negotiation and sourcing of championship. He said the deals automatically made Nwoye and Nwafor members of WAW under Ricky Knight as Director.

“This partnership will impact positively on the growth of Wrestling in Nigeria,” Atula said.

“It will also assist in creating wrestling icons as well as revamp the lost glory of wrestling and make it a household name in Nigeria.

Nwoye was the first Nigerian female wrestler to win Gold in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games. She is an African champion, two-time Nigeria best female wrestler and an Olympian.

She was discovered and mentored by Emeka Obodimma, a veteran wrestler and a director in the Anambra Sports Development Commission.

Nwafor was a Nigerian champion and African junior champion. Both wrestlers were sponsored to London for the deal and execution by the Anambra State Government.
