Nigerian Wrestling Icon Amos Ojo Passes Away
The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), have expressed deep sorrow over the passing of icon, Amos Ojo, who died on February 17th, 2025.
The late Ojo, who made significant contributions to the development of wrestling in Nigeria, was a member of the nation’s wrestling team for over a decade. He became multiple Commonwealth Games gold medalist, multiple African games gold medalist, among others in the 48kg category.
He also made appearances at the Seoul 1988 and Barcelona 1992 Olympics.
In a condolence message, signed by the NWF President, Daniel Igali, the Federation expressed sympathy to the Amos Ojo family.
Igali also condoled the Ogun Government and everyone connected to him, particularly the wrestling family in Ogun State, urging them to be strong in their grief due to the sad occurrence.

“We at the Wrestling Federation sincerely extend our heart-felt condolences to the Amos Ojo’s family, friends, colleagues and the entire Sports family in Ogun State during this moment of grief,” Igali said.
“He was a revered figure whose unique character and achievements contributed to the growth of the sport we see today. People like him gave their all to wrestling in Nigeria when everything was dark.”
We pray that the good Lord strengthens his family, and everyone connected to him to bear this irreplaceable loss,” he added.
