Nigerian youngsters have been encouraged not to leave the country in the quest for greener pastures elsewhere when they can discover greater opportunities here in Nigeria for free.

This clarion call was made by stakeholders at this year’s ‘NEXT ECONOMY JOB FAIR & EMPLOYERS’ FORUMin Abuja.

In her  Welcome Address, Kaneng Rwang-Pam, Lead Consultant of KRP Communications Ltd, expressed her joy at the Nigerian Industry owners who work to curb unemployment amongst Nigerian graduates.

She said: “We have individuals studying Computer Science but they have never seen a Computer; we have a graduate who came out with good degrees in Accounting and knows about  Peach Tree and Quick Books but cannot operate a computer. That will tell you that our Degrees are expiring.”

She stated that as a result of this, we now have graduates who lack the necessary skills required by labour companies.

“We have a lot of young people with zero life skills, we also have a lot of young people who do not have other skills and competence to practice what they read.”

She also observed that the problem of non-employability rests more on our focus on IQ that is Intelligence quotient rather than on EQ Emotional Intelligence/Quotient and SQ social intelligence/ Quotient.

Muyiwa Fasakin, Founder-Global League of Creative Intelligence Certified Coaches and Advisory Board Member- United Nations World Creativity and Innovation Day encouraged the youths to shun irregular migration as the way out of unemployment, saying that SOS/ NEXT ECONOMY has come to their rescue.

Our response to the ‘JAKPA Syndrome’ or Irregular Migration is to build capacity, re-school and then rebuild Nigerian graduate professionals, empowering them with life and digital skills training and through this Job Fair bring them face to face with job owners who need them.’’

The Next Economy is an African Youth Employability Training program of the SOS Children’s Villages.

It’s a non-profit initiative made possible by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The training is geared towards curbing irregular migration amongst youths, especially unemployed graduates. At the Programme, young people are empowered and encouraged to transition from education to work life through employment opportunities or entrepreneurial ventures.

The Job fair brings together Employers of labour and employable Nigerian youths.

It is a veritable platform for employers of labour to meet and recruit highly trained young Nigerian job seekers from various professional fields. In other words, employers can recruit these highly skilled graduate professionals at no cost; network with industry leaders, conduct instant interviews and get more visibility for their brands.
