The Executive Secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Rev. Yakubu Pam says the country will remain ever grateful for democracy, which has given the nation leaders and citizens the opportunity to co-exist peacefully.
Speaking to State House Correspondents in Abuja, the cleric expressed optimism that the country will remain indivisible as he advocated for support for leaders at all levels.
He said: “We are grateful for the existence of democracy in Nigeria, where leaders come and go, also that it affords us the right to choose our leaders. We are also grateful for democracy because it affords us the right to worship God in any way, we deem fit.
“We should do everything possible to allow the processes of democracy to continue in this country, believing that God’s hand is still upon our country and also believing that Nigeria will survive no matter the challenges we face.
“So many years ago, Nigeria would have disintegrated but the devil has been put to shame with the various steps our leaders have taken and we are still one and we are very happy, we will continue to remain a united nation. God forbid; if Nigeria disintegrates today, where will our refugees be? Is it Cameroun or Niger Republic? All the countries around us depend on us as the giant of Africa so we shouldn’t allow anything bad to happen to this country.”
Rev Yakubu Pam also used the opportunity to advise Nigerians to support the government as it addresses the challenges confronting the nation.
Agriculture
The NCPC Executive Secretary revealed that leveraging on the already existing good ties between Nigeria and Israel and Jordan, the three countries are now collaborating to boost agricultural activities in Nigeria.
He said the aim is to engage the youths in order to make them more productive as leaders of tomorrow.
“That is what we are doing, myself and the two Ambassadors; Nigerian Ambassador to Israel and our ambassador to Jordan, looking at how we can be able to put a programme together in collaboration with those countries for the benefit of our people.
“We are working on that regardless of religion. Like it is obtained in Jordan, the Muslim and Christian youths are usually brought together because I believe in Nigeria as a country. So, beyond religion, we are bringing them together to study agriculture and learn a lot of things together in order to boost our economy.
“So, I think one of the visions we need to build is agriculture because we have the land and substantial rain. Agriculture alone can deliver this country. Hitherto, we have all put our hopes on oil revenue which has helped the country but it has also made us not explore other sectors,” he added.
