Nigerians now consume 80,000 terabytes of data monthly. This is according to Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice-Chairman/ CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

“We’ve seen this trend of increase in data usage for quite a while associated with increase in online activities and, therefore, increase in demand for data by consumers.

“Therefore, we are aware about the difficulties that consumers are experiencing when it comes to data service condition.

“…One, we received a multitude of complaints about the way and manner data is being depleted quickly. Whether the data depletion is as a result of usage by the consumers or as a result of the allusion being made that mobile operators are shortchanging customers , it’s something that we take serious interest in and have conducted investigations in order to know the problem.

“We are doing this is because we are here to defend the interest of the consumers.

“We have put in place various measures…we always guide the consumer,” Prof Umar said in an interview.
