The Nigerian diaspora communities in the United Kingdom and the United States held memorial concerts to celebrate the life and times of music icon Sound Sultan.

Both cities of London (UK) New York and Atlanta (USA) staged what was tagged the “8th Wonda concert” to relive the musical moments of Sound Sultan – who died on July 11 after a protracted battle with cancer.

The concerts was a chance to celebrate Sound Sultan and his immense contributions to the development of Africa’s Creative Industry.

At the London concert, it was also a time for reconciliation as long-term feuding  artistes Innocent ‘2Face’ Idibia  and Blackface put aside their differences to render memorable hit tracks of years gone.

Both men belonged to the music group ‘Plantashion Boiz’ before their split.

Timi Dakolo also performed.

REACTIONS

Nigerians commended the organizers of the concerts for keeping the spirit of Sound sultan alive.

This is a great tribute. The greatest highlight for me was the Plantashun Boiz reunion. I hope this is a permanent reconciliation,” noted Martin Abudu.

Thank God for the selfless, humane and humble life you lived. I met you once dating back to about 20 years. You kept growing with good works till you answer the home call. May God keep your wife n kids. RIP Sound Sultan,” Adeniyi Patricks observed.

The Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NECLive) organized the concerts which were held simultaneously both in-person and virtually.

Sound Sultan, 44, is survived by his wife Farida, their three kids, and his siblings, including Baba Dee, who coached, mentored and supported him during a career that lasted over 20 years.
