The equities market closed on a negative after Tuesday’s trading session on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange Limited, NGX.
Sell-offs of ZENITH BANK PLC which declined by 0.8% and ACCESS BANK PLC which fell 0.6% triggered the market performance amid investors’ interest in MTN NIGERIA COMMUNICATIONS PLC which upped 0.1%.
Precisely, the All-Share Index settled at 42,388.57 basis points, falling by 6.14 basis points or 0.01% from 42,394.71 basis points.
Similarly, the Market Capitalization fell N3 billion or 0.01% from N22,129 trillion to N22,126 trillion.
The total volume traded surged by 94.1% to 275.93 million units, valued at N3.94 billion, and exchanged in 3,489 deals, evident also in the 21 stocks that gained compared to the 15 stocks that declined.
UACN PLC was the most traded stock by volume at 75.88 million units, while FBN HOLDINGS PLC was the most traded stock by value at N836.41 million, respectively.
MEYER PLC was the top gainer for the day with an increase from 0.42k per share to 0.46k per share by 0.04k or 9.52 percent.
Followed by CONSOLIDATED HALLMARK INSURANCE PLC which upped from 0.58k per share to 0.59k per share, gaining 0.05k or 9.26 percent. And CAP PLC appreciated from N18.20k per share to N19.45k per share by N1.25k or 6.8 percent.
Conversely, ETERNA PLC topped the losers table when it fell from N5.55k per share to N5.00k per share, loosing 0.55k or 9.91 percent.
Next is MRS OIL NIGERIA PLC which declined from N13.70k per share to N12.35k per share, loosing N1.35k or 9.85 percent. While JAPAUL GOLD & VENTURES PLC depreciated from 0.39k per share to 0.36k per share by 0.03k or 7.69 percent.
Analysing sectoral performance, the Insurance index upped 1.2% and the Consumer Goods upped 0.1%, becoming the only sectors with gains today, while the Oil & Gas index fell 0.5% and the Banking index fell 0.4% even as the Industrial Goods index closed flat.
