Nigeria’s cabinet approves University of Health Sciences Otukpo

The Federal Executive Council has approved the establishment of the Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo, Benue State.

The approval was given at Wednesday’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, who announced this at the media briefing after the meeting, said that the council approved the draft bill for the establishment of the university.

The establishment of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo will bring the number of federal universities in the country in 2021 to 50.

It will also be the third federal university of health sciences in Nigeria after the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, Bauchi State; and the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila Orangun, Osun State.

Bills for Interior Ministry

In a similar development, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola informed State House correspondents at the briefing that the cabinet meeting approved two memoranda he presented for bills from his ministry.

 “On behalf of the Ministry of Interior, I presented a memo seeking for a bill on how to rebuild the Immigration and Prisons Services Board at CAP 12, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004.

“I equally sought for the enactment of the civil defence, Correctional Federal Service and Immigration Services Board, CDCFIB Bill 2021 at today’s FEC,” Aregbesola said, adding that “the two prayers were approved.”

Towing truck

Also at the briefing, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello said that his ministry got approval for the procurement of a light-duty towing truck.

According to him, the procurement would include a 10-ton crane attachment for the Directorate of Road Services under the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

“This truck is meant to complement and add to the fleet of vehicles that that directorate has so that it can enhance our activities of towing vehicles at scenes of accidents and also of towing vehicles when they are impounded,” Bello stated.

He said that the contract has been awarded to a company called CIF Global Services Ltd at a total contract sum of N286, 302, 277. 50k, with a completion period of eight weeks.
