Nigeria’s Defence Chief promises Sports Partnerships to Curb Insecurity
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa, has announced that his agency will strengthen partnerships with various sports federations to enhance the fitness of personnel and nurture talented athletes who could bring medals to Nigeria.

Gwabin Musa, speaking recently said many young people without jobs can be helped off the streets through sport, which reduces insecurity and makes the defence officials’ job easier.
“To continue encouraging each other, we have collaborated with the Wrestling Federation, basketball, skating, and marathon events.”
“We’ll keep expanding these efforts. It’s a way to show that part of our non-kinetic approach to security is engaging our youth.”
Musa spoke on the untapped potential among Nigeria’s youth, viewing sports as a strategic outlet to curb insecurity.
“Nigeria is blessed with talented youths,” he said. “We need to tap those talents rather than leaving them idle. Engaging them can help reduce the acts of criminality we see.”
Gwabin Musa believes that empowering youth through sports can lead to positive societal changes, making the Defence agency’s mission easier by indirectly addressing factors that fuel insecurity.
