Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed that maternal and child healthcare remains central to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Mrs Tinubu stated this while inaugurating the 100-bed Oluremi Tinubu Maternal and Child Specialist Hospital in Gombe State.

The First Lady explained that the facility symbolises a new dawn for families in the state and beyond, assuring that it will provide quality healthcare services for women and children.

“The commissioning of this hospital is not just the unveiling of a building; it is the opening of doors to life, to hope, and to a healthier future for our mothers and our children. Healthcare, especially maternal and child health, is at the heart of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which seeks to ensure that every Nigerian child has a healthy start in life, and that no mother dies while birthing life,” she said.

Mrs Tinubu expressed confidence that the facility would deliver quality healthcare services, reduce maternal and infant mortality, and ease the burden on families across the region.

The First Lady commended the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for constructing the hospital, describing it as a major step toward achieving global development targets.

“As we commission this hospital today, I encourage all stakeholders, medical professionals, community leaders, and citizens to ensure that it serves its noble purpose with excellence, compassion, and integrity,” she stated.

Nursing College

Mrs. Tinubu later inaugurated the ultra-modern New College of Nursing and Midwifery in Gombe, where she interacted with students who expressed gratitude for her visit.

The new hospital and nursing college are expected to expand access to healthcare, improve medical training, and strengthen maternal and child health services in the North-East region.

Meanwhile the First Lady has emphasised the vital role of traditional and religious institutions in nation-building, urging stronger partnerships with government to sustain peace and drive community development.

During a courtesy visit to the Emir of Akko, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Atiku, at his palace in Kumo, she was conferred with the traditional title of Sarauniyar Yakin Akko (Female Chief Warrior of Akko Emirate).

The Emir described the commissioning of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) as a “historic milestone” that marks a new chapter in healthcare delivery for the people of Gombe State.

Also speaking, Usman Bello Kumo, Member representing Akko Federal Constituency, commended President Bola Tinubu for the numerous federal interventions in the state.

He reaffirmed Gombe’s support for the administration, pledging continued cooperation and political loyalty ahead of future elections.
