Nigeria’s Rema bags MTV’s Best Afrobeats award
Nigeria’s Rema has become the first to bag the award of the inaugural category for best Afrobeats at the MTV Video Music Awards.

This year’s award ceremony was held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on September 12, 2023. The show was hosted by Nicki Minaj.

Nigeria’s Afrobeats is the first ever African genre to have its category at the MTV Awards.
In Rema’s speech, He paid homage to Fela Kuti the founder of Afrobeat, 2face Idibia, Timaya, D’banj, Wizkid, Davido, Runtown, and Burnaboy.
