Majority leader of the Nigerian Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, says the strength of the country lies in its unity and so, the country must remain indivisible no matter the odds.

Senator Bamidele stated this in Abuja on Tuesday, in an interview with State House Correspondents at a special parade put together by the Presidential Guards Brigade.

He also assured Nigerians that the leadership of the country is working hard to ensure that the nation overcomes the current challenges it is facing, as he expressed optimism that next year will be better for Nigeria.

He said: “It was more of a military parade but in the course of the programme and cultural display, there was a clear message that no single zone or region of this country can do it alone. It was a message of unity.

Anniversary Significance

“It was a message of how far we can go, realising that our strength is in our unity but beyond that I just want to say that the significance of this commemoration itself is for us to continue to celebrate our nationhood and unity as well as celebrate God almighty who has kept Nigeria together against all odds,”  Senator Bamidele said.

The legislator however acknowledged that the citizens are facing some challenges, which he said are not insurmountable.

He therefore appealed for patience as the government works hard to ameliorate the situation.

“There is no doubting the fact that things are tough at the moment and there is no doubting the fact that our people are struggling to make ends meet but there is aso no doubt that the government is doing everything possible to make sure that this time passes as soon as possible.

“I have no doubt that with the different socio-economic programmes of government being implemented, our story cannot be the same and I look forward to the 65th independence anniversary next year when we will have a better story to tell about the state of the nation,” he said.
