Describing the funeral as Strengthening and ennobling,” Prof. Osinabjo, who spoke to reporters on Monday after attending the State Funeral of the late monarch at the Westminster Abbey, said that the late Elizabeth II, brought people together in her life and in her death.

“For countries like ours, for Nigeria and the Commonwealth, I think that this has been very ennobling, very strengthening.

“I’m sure King Charles III himself felt as somewhat, not just the honour of having so many people come by, but also the reassurance that there is a brotherhood across the world and that the Commonwealth remains strong, a Commonwealth of free nations willing subscribe to coming together to work together to achieve sometimes disparate political objectives but clear economic objectives.”

According to Prof. Osinbajo, the historic event is one that is unlikely to happen twice in a lifetime with “The sheer enormity of all that has happened and the gathering of leaders from everywhere, the good wishes and all of that and practically everywhere in the world.”

Queen of all seasons

Prof. Osinbajo, who had in his tribute on Sunday described Elizabeth II as Queen for all seasons, explained that the late monarch was able to bring a certain degree of understanding in different cycles of her reign, including during war and peace.

“First, in the 70 years that she’s been queen, it’s obvious that through practically every cycle, war, peace, economic decline, apartheid for example.

“All the various cycles where truly major things were going on I think she held her own and she was always able to bring a certain degree of understanding.

“Just the gravity that somebody who does not hold political office but is so well respected, so well regarded.

“So, in so many ways, she was a factor in practically all of the various cycles of experience not just in the commonwealth but in the world itself.  I think she has been a very stabilizing force.

“That’s why the description, of course, borrowed, that she was queen of all seasons.”

Charles III’s Success

The Vice President prayed and wished King Charles III in his reign and hoped that he would do better than his mother.

“We are all anxious that he succeeds and that perhaps he even does better than his mother, which has always been the hope; I’m sure, of his mum.

“I’m sure the queen would really hope that all her successors, in this case King Charles, would do better than she did.”

Vice President Osinbajo said that the reign of King Charles III would bring prosperity and peace, not just to England but also to the Commonwealth and the rest of the world.
