NIMC Stresses Importance of Accurate Data Management
The Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has emphasised the indispensable role of accurate data in advancing President Bola Tinubu’s eight-point agenda.
Coker-Odusote, who made the remarks in a recent address at the Commission’s 2024 management retreat in Lagos, highlighted the commission’s ongoing efforts to provide every Nigerian with a unique identity number, essential for accessing government services and benefits.
According to Coker-Odusote, Tinubu’s agenda, which prioritizes security, job creation, infrastructure development, and poverty reduction, relies heavily on precise data to inform policy decisions and action plans.
She noted that, in alignment with Tinubu’s agenda, NIMC is at the forefront of leveraging accurate data management to propel national development and foster closer ties between the government and the Nigerian populace.
Coker-Odusote stressed that the commission’s work in enrolling over 104 million Nigerians is pivotal in achieving these goals, with plans underway to enroll the remaining population.
The Director-General announced the imminent launch of an online modification platform, allowing individuals to update their information without visiting NIMC offices.

The initiative aims to streamline processes and enhance citizen convenience. Additionally, a pre-enrollment service is slated to debut soon, further simplifying the acquisition of the National Identity Number (NIN).
Coker-Odusote reiterated NIMC’s commitment to bridging the gap between the government and citizens, underscoring the NIN’s role in facilitating access to government services while combating fraud and identity theft.
The NIN, she explained, facilitates transparent payment tracking, ensuring funds reach intended recipients and mitigating issues like ghost payments.
She added that the forthcoming pre-enrollment platform is poised to revolutionize the NIN acquisition process, allowing individuals to complete registration online before visiting enrollment centres for biometric capture.
