The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) have agreed to integrate NiMet’s real-time meteorological data into LASWA’s operations to enhance safety, optimise ferry schedules, and support smarter, weather-informed transport planning across Lagos State.
The agreement was reached when the Director-General of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, received a delegation from LASWA led by its General Manager, Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja.
Both parties also discussed signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise and strengthen the partnership.
The proposed collaboration is expected to improve ferry routing, reduce weather-related disruptions, and enhance emergency response capabilities.
They also emphasised the need for operator training and public awareness as vital components of safer and more efficient water transport in Lagos State.
