The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has presented the maiden edition of its Livestock Weather Bulletin to the Minister, Idi Maiha, aimed at improving productivity and reducing climate- and weather-related risks.

NiMet’s Director-General/CEO, Professor Charles Anosike said the bulletin “provides timely, livestock-focused weather information to support informed decision-making.”

Professor Anosike highlighted the importance of meteorological data in animal health, feed and water availability, breeding cycles, and daily farm operations.

He reaffirmed NiMet’s readiness to partner with the Ministry through training and capacity building for farmers and extension officers.

Also, the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, stressed the practical value of weather forecasting, noting “its importance to my own farming experience.”

Maiha disclosed that 417 grazing reserves nationwide have been approved for rehabilitation and emphasised the need for collaboration with NiMet to ensure the initiative is climate-smart.

He also revealed plans for a situation room with live weather data in the Ministry’s new complex.

Both parties agreed to set up a technical working group by January 2026 and to sign a Memorandum of Understanding by the first quarter of 2026 to formalise collaboration on data sharing, training, and joint capacity-building programmes.
