In a bid to improve operational efficiency, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), in partnership with the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria (Chartered), has organised a two-day Executive Leadership Programme (ELP) on Strategic Management in the Public Sector for its senior and mid-level management staff.

Declaring the programme open, the Director-General/CEO of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, underscored the importance of effective management in driving national development.

According to him, “No country needs to be poor if it has people and good management. Today we are gathered here to learn and grow together and ensure that we continue to demonstrate the capacity to manage adaptive challenges of climate change.”

He stressed that continuous improvement is vital in responding to rising uncertainties, noting that managers’ ability to apply multidimensional approaches to performance is central to NiMet’s operational success.

“Management was created as a way to reduce chaos in organisations and make them run more efficiently and effectively. In that regard, our work requires that we consistently and committedly seek to establish order and stability to drive operational excellence, challenge and respect our team members, and by so doing, grow trust and teamwork,” he said.

The intensive programme featured concise, high-impact sessions on succession planning, stakeholder engagement, financial management, public entrepreneurship and innovation, the strategic leadership and management grid, organisational culture, strategy games and simulations, ethics, and team leadership.

These sessions were designed to strengthen leadership pipelines, deepen partnerships, enhance financial discipline, promote innovation, foster a collaborative work culture, sharpen decision-making, and reinforce transparency within teams.

Prof. Anosike said the Executive Leadership Programme underscores NiMet’s commitment to continuous professional development, operational excellence, and the enhancement of its workforce’s capacity to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable meteorological services that support national development and climate resilience.
