Nintendo Announces New Initiative Support For Disabled Gamers
Nintendo has officially announced its participation in a new initiative aimed at supporting gamers with disabilities. The program, which includes notable collaborators such as EA and Xbox, represents a collective effort within the gaming industry to enhance accessibility.
The Accessible Games Initiative will inform gamers about accessibility features within their video games through tags that will show the accessibility features available in the game before making that all-important purchase.
“Tens of millions of Americans have a disability, but without a common language to describe the accessibility features within different video games, making informed purchases can be challenging.
“That is why Nintendo of America is pleased to announce that we are a member of the new Accessible Games Initiative.”

The Accessible Games Initiative attempts to provide players with clear information about the accessibility features in video games through a set of “tags” that players can use to identify the accessibility features available in a specific game before they purchase that game.
How Does It Work?
Nintendo of America will be introducing these tags in the future. As publishers opt to add support for the Accessible Games Initiative tags, players will be able to find them in the My Nintendo Store.
Players can find the descriptions for each tag on the Accessible Games Initiative website.
Participating companies will all be using the same tags and tag definitions. In short, you no longer need to worry about guessing what a tag means for individual games across participating gaming storefronts, and you can better know what to expect before you buy a game.
