The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has commended the Executive Secretary of the Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF), Fatima Shinkafi, for her visionary leadership, creativity, and innovative efforts in advancing Nigeria’s economic growth.
The praise which was conveyed in a statement by SMDF’s Head of Corporate Communications, Idowu Jokpeyibo, noted that the recognition followed a courtesy visit by an NIPR delegation, led by Ms. Lami Tumaka, Chairman of NIPR’s inaugural International Women’s Day (IWD) Planning Committee, ahead of the 2026 celebration scheduled for March 30 in Abuja.
During the visit, Shinkafi emphasised the significance of intentional mentorship for young women, describing it as vital for national development and the cultivation of capable female leaders.
She stressed that investing in the growth of young women would ensure a credible pipeline of future leaders.“
“I see so many young, bright and intelligent girls and women that we should be mentoring. It is important that we invest in this critical group as part of our contribution to the development of society. That way, we are sure of the credible succession and the emergence of competent female leaders,” she said.
Shinkafi also commended the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, for creating a conducive environment that enables women in the solid minerals sector to thrive.
In her remarks, Ms. Tumaka commended Shinkafi’s creativity and innovation at SMDF, noting that her leadership has brought significant value to the institution and the nation’s economy.
She also praised Bola Tinubu for appointing women to strategic positions across sectors, describing the move as a demonstration of gender sensitivity.
Ms. Tumaka further highlighted one of SMDF’s recent milestones, the $1.3 billion direct foreign investment deal signed between the Federal Government and the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), noting that the Institute is proud of Shinkafi’s transformative impact.
The 2026 NIPR International Women’s Day celebration, themed “Communicate to Balance: Gain Equity, Empower Women,” will take place at the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Office of the National Security Adviser, Abuja.
