NITDA Advocates For Digital Sovereignty on the Global Stage

The Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, participated in the 19th annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF) held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The forum, themed “Building Our Multistakeholder Digital Future,” convened global leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to address critical issues shaping the digital landscape.

Speaking during the session titled “Digital Transformation and Sovereignty: A Route to Autarchy,” Inuwa reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s national cybersecurity framework and promoting inclusive policymaking. He emphasised the need to strike a balance between digital sovereignty and global interconnectedness, ensuring Nigeria remains both self-reliant and internationally collaborative.

By sharing Nigeria’s experiences and insights, Inuwa contributed significantly to the global conversation on digital governance. The session concluded with a call for global cooperation, underscoring the need for cross-sector and cross-regional partnerships to preserve the internet as a shared global resource. Insights from digitally advanced and high-risk regions highlighted strategies to maintain digital sovereignty while fostering global connectivity.
