The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has announced that the implementation of its Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) framework will commence in the first quarter of 2026.

The plan was disclosed at the end of a two-day technical workshop in Abuja on the Public Review of the Draft DPI Life Events Framework and the Draft Technical Standard for the Nigerian Data Exchange (NGDX).

According to NITDA, the framework will serve as the backbone of Nigeria’s e-Government system, driving efficient service delivery and creating an enabling environment for innovation.

The Director of e-Government and Digital Economy at NITDA, Salisu Kaka, explained that the agency adopted a co-creation approach to ensure that stakeholder concerns were addressed and a solid foundation laid for implementation.

“This document was released to the public in an attempt to ensure that we drive this document in a co-creation approach. We feel it’s necessary to combat the stakeholder so that we hear their views, what are their expectations, what do they want to see in this DPI journey, and what is expected of them to be as part of the participants or beneficiaries of this DPI journey,” Kaka said.

On the implementation timeline, he said; “From the design, all things being equal, we should start dropping our use cases by the first quarter of next year. From now to the end of this 2025, we will be done with the implementation of all the establishment of the exchange platform because those are the only items missing.

“We have the IDs there, we have the payment platform there, so the exchange is hoping to come on board latest on or before end of this year and by next year we enter fully ready with the foundational elements and we start dropping the use cases across these sectors.”

In his closing remarks, the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, represented by the Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy, Dr Dimie Wariowei, described the initiative as a major step towards building a robust digital ecosystem.

He stressed the importance of collaboration in advancing Nigeria’s digital public infrastructure, particularly in establishing standards, enabling seamless data exchange, and accelerating e-Government transformation.
