Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has partnered with the National Agriculture Development Fund (NADF) to deploy technological solutions in agricultural development, with the goal of boosting food security.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Kashifu Inuwa, Director General of NITDA, emphasised the importance of technology in realising President Bola Tinubu’s vision for food security.

“The President is committed to achieving food security, and we cannot discuss agriculture without technology. This MoU will harness emerging technologies to enhance agricultural productivity,” Inuwa said.

He highlighted previous initiatives, including partnerships with stakeholders, tertiary institutions, research and development efforts, and startups focused on agricultural technologies. He also noted that the agency had disbursed grants to startups with innovative ideas.

“The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Mr. Bosun Tijani, has demonstrated similar projects on his farm. The Minister is committed to achieving this goal. Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this project, culminating in today’s signing,” Inuwa added.

On his part, NADF Executive Secretary Muhammad Abu Ibrahim stressed the critical link between technology and agriculture. He noted that, despite challenges such as insecurity, farmer-herder conflicts, climate change, and funding issues, emerging technologies would enable data-driven decision-making.

“Technology has significantly impacted agriculture. This partnership will help optimise our response and prioritise limited resources,” Ibrahim said.
