Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Kashifu Inuwa, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to provide adolescents with the required skills to create positive change and ensure a sustainable future.
He made the remarks in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, during the 2023 International Youth Day Celebration, which was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and was titled “Green Skills for Youths: Towards a Sustainable World.”
Represented by the acting national coordinator of the Office for Nigeria Digital Innovation (ONDI), Yakubu Musa, Abdullahi highlighted the pivotal role that youths play in constructing a more peaceful, just and sustainable society for everyone.
He applauded the youth for their boundless energy, fresh perspectives, and unwavering determination, stating that they hold the keys to shaping an inclusive, equitable and sustainable world.
“In celebrating this special day, I commend the boundless enthusiasm, ideas and leadership that young people bring to the global stage. Through their fervour, innovative outlooks, and unyielding determination, our youth are instrumental in sculpting a world that embraces inclusivity, equity, and sustainability. They are at the forefront in addressing climate change, advocating for equality, and forging a more harmonious and comprehensive society,” The NITDA boss stated
Inuwa emphasised NITDA’s active engagement in various digital skills programmes and initiatives aimed at empowering the youth, generating employment and fostering a sustainable future for Nigeria.
He interpreted this year’s celebration theme as a call to action for young individuals to develop skills necessary for building an environmentally cleaner and greener future. Abdullahi urged them to seize opportunities provided by the government and other stakeholders.
“From renewable energy to sustainable agriculture, a multitude of opportunities await young people in contributing to the fight against climate change. As Nigeria’s most invaluable asset, it is our collective responsibility to equip our youth with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities that will empower them to spearhead positive transformations,”
To this end, the NITDA Boss advocated for enhanced collaboration and synergy among stakeholders. He urged them to work collectively, learn from one another and collectively construct a safe, prosperous and sustainable Nigeria.
During the event, the permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ismaila Abubakar explained the purpose of International Youth Day.
He stressed the need to mobilise youths to play a significant role in the advancement and growth of their immediate surroundings and the nation at large.
Abubakar expressed his gratitude to the ministry’s key partners and other stakeholders for their consistent support in equipping youths with the knowledge, skills and resources required to drive economic growth and prosperity for all.
