The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Sokoto State Chapter, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu (Jungle), has commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for the improved welfare packages extended to civil servants and pensioners across all levels in the state.

Comrade Aliyu gave the commendation while addressing journalists in his office, following the conversion of June salary payments into a three-month loan scheme for workers by the state government.

He said the gesture would significantly reduce hardship among workers and improve service delivery across public institutions.

According to him, “The salary, which was paid on 2 June 2025, was acknowledged as a timely intervention aimed at easing financial pressure on the state workforce and to enable them celebrate Eid-Al-Adha with ease.” He added that “Regular and prompt salary payments not only boost morale, but also enhance productivity across ministries, departments, and agencies.”

Comrade Aliyu appreciated the state government’s consistency in fulfilling its obligations to both active workers and retirees. He also commended the recent launch of government-subsidised shops in six local government areas for civil servants and pensioners, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.

He said “The initiative will provide access to affordable essential goods, especially for low-income earners and pensioners.”

He further praised the administration’s commitment to clearing the backlog of gratuities owed to retired civil servants dating back to 2016, noting that “The move is a long-awaited relief for many retirees and their families who have endured years of financial hardship.”

Comrade Aliyu called on workers in the state to reciprocate the government’s gesture by demonstrating increased dedication to duty in support of the state’s sustainable development.

He noted that “The state government has many programmes and welfare schemes for civil servants, including motorcycle loans, housing loans, among others.”

The NLC Chairman also reaffirmed the union’s readiness to maintain a strong and constructive partnership with the state government in the best interest of workers and overall development.
