NNPC bags New Telegraph’s Transparency Award

New Telegraph, one of Nigeria’s leading national dailies has conferred its 2020 Award of Government Agency of the year (in the area of #Transparency) on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation #NNPC.

The Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the New Telegraph, Mr. Ayodele Aminu, disclosed that the emergence of NNPC as the most transparent government agency in 2020 was based on the Corporation’s recent openness and accountability to the public:

“Before now, #NNPC‘s accounts had been shrouded in secrecy, but @MKKyari  was brave enough to say this is the way we are and let the public see that there is nothing hidden.”

Receiving the award, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari, thanked the management of New Telegraph for the honour, saying that the award was for the entire NNPC staff, who have been relentless in ensuring that the Corporation remains on the path of transparency.

“We definitely know that this award comes with a huge responsibility on our part. More than ever before, we remain focused and committed to our collective resolve to take the #Transparency drive in the  #NNPC to new and enviable heights,” @MKKyari  enthused.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is the nation’s oil corporation. It was established on April 1, 1977. In addition to its exploration activities, the Corporation was given powers and operational interests in refining, petrochemicals and products transportation as well as marketing. It has also constructed some refineries within the country.
