NNPC Foundation reiterates commitment to providing healthcare services

The NNPC Foundation has reiterated commitment to supporting the provision of quality healthcare to Nigerians, in addressing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) that affect men, women and children in communities.

The Managing Director, NNPC Foundation LTD/GTE, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe who stated this at a free medical outreach in Garki community, Abuja also said the initiative will ensure inclusive, total and free medical care for all persons in attendance.

“According to the 2022 statistics released by WHO, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) constitute approximately 71% of all global deaths. With this outreach, we aim to lend our support in ensuring this number is significantly reduced, at least, starting from our immediate communities.”

The support is through free medical services which includes free checkup and treatment, eye screening and free glasses; as well as distribution of mosquito nets and sanitary pads to girls and women.

The Managing Director NNPC foundation further outlined the commitment and objectives of the NNPC Foundation.

“Our mission is not merely to provide medical assistance but to empower individuals with knowledge and resources to lead healthier lives. Today, our dedicated team will offer a range of services aimed at promoting preventive care and early detection of illnesses.

“The services include {a}health education session, eye screenings and distribution of refracted glasses, tests for and treatment of malaria and distribution of mosquito nets for malaria prevention, deworming of children, routine tests such as blood pressure, BMI, blood sugar levels, weight assessments and dispensing of drugs and others,” she said.

Also addressing journalists at the event, the Managing Director, NNPC HMO, Dr. Musa Ribadu, noted that the NNPC Group will continue to champion the good causes that will drive positive change and touch the lives of Nigerians.

He further emphasized on the need for Nigerians to get medical checkups and screening more often so as to avoid silent ailments and other health related complications.

“The NNPC as a national company has Nigerians as stakeholders and shareholders. The NNPC Foundation as an arm of the company is empowered to carry out Corporate Social Responsibility on behalf of the NNPC Group. What you are seeing today; this health camp is just one of the key mandates of the NNPC Foundation and as you can see, adults are being screened for diabetes, for hypertension and children are being screened for malaria. Those that are found to have malaria infection etcetera, are being given drugs and de-wormers so that they can be treated,” he emphasised.

Responding to the good gesture, the Sa’Peyi of Garki, His Royal Highness Dr. Usman Nga Kupi while applauding the NNPC Foundation for having his people at heart by bringing such initiative to his community, said that his participation in the process is to encourage his people to actively participate in the medical outreach.

He further called on other local and international organisations to come up with more programs that will assist the less privileged in Garki, Abuja and Nigeria.

In a sensitization health talk, Dr. Amara Albert of Medic et al Limited called on the residents to intensify the zeal to get checked and always take their health seriously because according to her, to live in good health, 80 percent is dependent on how people take care of themselves, while 20 percent is on professional medical care.

Highlights of the event included testimonies from beneficiaries of the medical outreach.

The NNPC Foundation LTD is an arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), which is poised to improve the quality of life of Nigerians through community oriented projects as well as creating a sustainable impact for a better tomorrow.
