The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has won the Bagwai/Shanono state constituency by-election in Kano, northwestern Nigeria.
The Independent National Electoral Commission returning officer of the election, announcing the results on Sunday, declared Ali Hassan Kiyawa of the NNPP winner with 16,198 votes, defeating Ahmad Muhammad Kadamu of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who polled 5,347 votes.
The by-election followed the death of former APC lawmaker Halilu Ibrahim Kundila in April 2024.
