The Vice Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Prof. Charles Arinzechukwu Igwe, has said that there is no admission racketeering going on at the premier University.
Prof. Igwe made the clarification on Tuesday at a press briefing marking the 51st Convocation ceremony that will culminate on Sunday at the Nsukka campus of the University.
The Vice Chancellor, who was fielding questions from journalists on the recent alleged admission racketeering levelled against the institution on the floor of the Senate, said that UNN had always been meticulous in admitting students to the university that has admission quota of 11,000.
He said that every parent would want their children or wards to study at UNN but that the admission space will not allow them.
Igwe therefore counseled anybody wishing to be admitted to study at UNN to work hard to be given admission, maintaining that there is no admission racketeering rocking the University.
The Vice Chancellor boasted that UNN was best among others and that is why everyone is craving to be part of.
“UNN is not just other University. Anybody who wants to be a student of UNN must work hard. UNN is known for discipline. We maintain standards,” he said.
Prof. Igwe shared some of the most recent developments in the university.
“First, the Centre for Environmental Management and Control (CEMAC) has been upgraded to a joint NNPC/SPDC joint Venture Centre for Excellence in Environmental Management and Green Energy (CEMAGE). This is a very significant and remarkable development that would boost the funding, research output and, invariably the visibility and reputation of the University of Nigeria,” Prof. Igwe stated.
He expressed gratitude to the joint venture partners, Shell Petroleum Company and the NNPC.
